Finally started my battle today. Had my first paper in the morning...it was chui can. I do the paper until I feel like putting down the pen and say "I give up!!" 3 hours worth of calculations...more tedious than u can imagine!
What's worse. I wrote my questions on the wrong booklet! Was supposed to write section B on the blue booklet but instead I wrote almost all my questions on the yellow booklet. ~.~"" Seriously don't know why am I sooooo blur. And that guy who collected my paper, just simply a word of "Sorry, 我不知道" and snatched my paper away when I told him about the problem ~.~"""""""""" Luckily I managed to catch the nice lady professor who asked me to write a note, if not I seriously don't what to do. Sent an email to both Prof Yam & Prof Che le and the issue was noted, so I guess it shouldn't be a problem le ba.......=(

But still, I felt so chui & sian that I decided to walk around to let some air out. Went to nearby Central. Central is really big, and it is not all about atas shops and office buildings. Somehow I find HK very interesting; every city has different faces. It's not like in Singapore where City Hall is purely CBD area and nothing much else. Central is different, there is a part of it which is so neighbourhood, so different... Anyway, went to H&M to do some retail therapy. The H&M there is BIG! 4 stories worth. In the end, I bought 3 tops, 2 necklaces and 1 scarf for poonam. Yay!! After that, I walked over to the atas IFC. Went to check out their christmas decor. Nothing much leh, maybe it's still not dark yet... Still think Times Square's decor is nicer. Dropped by Mango and the stuff are bloody ex! Even after 50% discount! ~.~"

And that ends my anti-sianess trip. It was quite rewarding. At least I get to breathe some fresh air after cropping in my room for 2 days. I felt so much better.. And when I reached home, roomie handed me a smilely card!! So sweet! Hope the offer between us can really last for a lifetime! =)

So after all, even though I had a chui time with my paper, I get to buy something, explore new places and a smilely card from roomie. I know my posts had been quite emo recently, but well, some things need to get trashed out to get better. So don't worry, I am fine fine fine! =)

Friends
A simple 7 letter word, yet it is hard to define
What makes someone a friend?
What makes you a good friend of someone?
Quite a few thoughts came up my mind recently..
not sure if it's because of the stale mugging session

A lot of things happened during this 4 months of exchange, mostly good, some minor glitches though, but they are usually gone with some laughs (or is it?)
Alone in this foreign land, without family and our usual clique of friends, life is indeed a change..
But I have been glad, been happy, been sad, been touched....in fact I would say I have not regret coming for this exchange, because of all those I have met here...
Although sometimes I wished I could be back in my comfort zone, things often turned out well soon.. it's part and parcel of life..
Somehow I was thinking if I had done enough as a friend too..here and even for those back in Singapore...
I am one with few words, perhaps that's why I don't easily get close with someone. But that dosen't mean I don't care....
I am one who don't exactly know how to sustain a conversation well...perhaps that's why I am always the boring one. But that dosen't mean I don't feel and sense that something is wrong..
I guess this is an area I need to improve on..instead of thinking of what someone has done for me, think about what I can do for others...
Instead of being contented staying in my comfort zone, I guess I have to start learning to open myself up to more..
And another: kick the habit of keeping everything to myself. Well...like I said, it's a habit. I just can't speak freely about my inner thoughts like everyone else..... Yes, shell......

Less than 3 weeks to home. Somehow I can't wait to get home, yet I wished I could stay on longer.....
But whatever it is, it is an experience, a memory...Something which I think I will miss when back in Singapore

Had a totally random fire drill just now... Performance: all of us would have turned into roast pigs by the time we got down. But it was really totally random ma...who would expect a fire drill in the middle of the night????????? They are going to have another one again next week..which was like wth la.. creating havoc out of nothing..

End lesson at 7 today. Super shack.. that feeling of walking around sch when the sky is dark is quite relaxing, but not good.. it means that yet another day has passed...
Everyone is looking drained out now, busying rushing all the projects, assignments, tests.... Next week is the last week of sch! Which means I am going back soon!! *mixed feelings~~~*

After a month of anticipation, Hong Kong is getting cold...like finally.. It's about 17 - 23 degrees outside, depending on the sun and on the strength of the wind. Cooling sia...but still COLD! Luckily I still have some jackets and long sleeved shirts to spare..but I want to buy more!! =)

Today is the day for our study abroad fair! It's a fair meant for HKU students to seek more info on overseas universities they would like to go on exchange. We, the Singaporeans, of course didn't let the chance go..must proved to them we are not ah thiongs!! haha. We did quite a bit of preparation work beforehand, and it was fun! The day itself was fun too! Didn't expect so many ppl to visit our S'pore booth, seeking info on exchange. Btw, NUS is by far still the most popular choice!! Brochures were all given away, lots of info asked by students going over for exchange next sem etc.. NUS rox man!! =) haha..NTU still buey pai la huh heh =). Photos coming up!!

This week has been quite torturous for me, with 2 tests on hand. But I managed to relax myself as and when, to the extend that I feel that whatever I studied previously just seem to vanish from my brain cells =( Hope I can still pass the test..all I ask for is a pass for that test..
For bbf workshop today, we watched a super hilarious movie! Totally enjoyed myself! haha The bad news: reflection writing at the end of this =( I still have lots of backlogged journals to clear!!!!!

On a random night, I spoke to him. A lot of things have taken place since I stepped foot on hk & I guessed I missed out quite a bit of stuff. But as I chatted with him, I realised I have started to put things down, the anguish which I felt previously seems to fade away... I am glad that right now, I am still able to chat with him, with more ease. Keep things this way.....Just as what hl said, why so serious?? things will go for the better somehow..

Going Mongkok to shop this friday!! Yet a thunderous bad news has to come: make-up lesson from 6-7 ~.~"" Why???????? Totally spoilt my week. But don't care, am still going! Bbq at the beach on Sat! So looking forward to it! haha.. hope my gastric can get better then...it has been hurting for the past few days and I don't what's wrong with it. Hope roomie's med helps else I'll have to knock on the doc's door =(

Btw, I will be flying back on the 28th of dec instead. Sudden change but ya.. A bit sad that I won't be able to travel much but china is really super freezing cold at the end of the year.. Just glad that I can spend X'mas here in hk!!! Whee oh whee~~~!! =)

Realised haven't been blogging for quite some time. Blogging do need the cultivation of feelings huh....Quite a few things happened recently... some good, some bad... which made me view things slightly differently, but not yet quite enough. Maturity and EQ needs time to cultivate I guess......But whatever it is, I won't let myself be too affected by all these. A smile is the answer key to everything! =)

Went exploring with rach on sat. It was quite a different experience, apart from the usual shopping and building-seeing... We got lost, but had fun getting lost... What's exploring without some hiccups? lolx! I want to go exploring again!!!

4 more weeks till exams for me. Loads of backloggings, plus 2 tests on the way. Time passes by so fast...I haven't got the time to do lots of things! Speaking of that, I have a sudden craving for THE mango drink..slurpslurp!! =)

School starts again after a not-so-enough 1 week break.
Woke up without having enough sleep... Luckily managed to catch the bus.
1st lecture: still ok.
Went down to mac for breakfast. Ordered from a not-so-friendly girl who dosen't seem to understand english. My canto still cmi what...The grilled chicken is nice, shall try it next time.
2nd lecture: ultimately boring! The prof just went on & on about her research. Goodness, are all scientists like that? Ever so passionate about their research? I hope I won't be like that...~.~'''
Spent the next 1 hour printing notes & slacking at the com centre...y am i still wasting time when I have 3 tests this week??!!!!
3rd lecture: equally boring. Felt so stuffy & bored during the 2 hr lect that I decided to reward myself a mandarin muffin. Didn't enjoy it as much though..I wonder y.... Muffins are supposed to make me happy.........
Passed the tai yang bing to wenjie & he complained it's lua already, all because of me quashing it.. I didn't lo... bleah!
Got on the bus back, had a short chat with kenniese & robi. Felt happy for roomie that she finally receive her mail from S'pore (*glance at my letter on the board*). It's always heartwarming to receive love from someone back home.. Smiles for her =)

Taiwan - Taipei

Whoosh..finally after a hectic 6 weeks of schooling, recess week is here!! Taipei here I come!! =)
We took the airport shuttle to the airport in the morning. My 2nd time stepping into hk airport, but this time around is flying away! Took a short flight on China Airlines to Taoyuan International Airport. The flight was not too bad, even had hot snacks during the 1++ hr flight. Slept all the way through..shack!

Reached Taipei at around noon and took a shuttle bus to our hotel. 2 years since I last visited taiwan. Everything is so strange yet so familiar.

Got a shock once we reached our hotel. The exterior looks a bit sleezy and we need to lug our luggage up the stairs to the lobby!! ~.~" But luckily the room is still not too bad, at least the room is clean, the bed is big & comfy and most importantly, it is very near Xi Men Ding! =)

1st stop: yummilicious lunch at Tamagoya! Then it was shopping all th way at Xi Men Ding!! =)

At night, we went to sing at party world. Don't be mistaken by the party world in S'pore, the tw version is super luxurious! They have room service and even have a toilet inside or room. Cool!! Sing until super shuang!

2nd day: a visit to the Gu Gong museum. The museum has a lot of chinese artfacts ranging from the shang dynasty to the qing dynasty to the modern chinese republic.

After that we went to yang ming shan to enjoy the hot spring! shiok! =)

At night, we went over to tan shui for a walk before heading to shi lin market. It was full of stuff to buy! Clothes, shoes, food....I haven't had enough of it...=(

3rd day: The search for Wesley's flute shop, which is located at I-forgot-where.. Spent abt half an hour just to find an address which do not even exist. In the end, the shop was located in a building which was quite a far walk from where we stopped ~.~"" But oh well, listening to him playing the flute was good enough to compensate the trip (even though it would be better if he can pla more songs lol!) It was his happiest day out of the trip~~! haha...

After that we went to Wu Fen Pu and Rao he. The place had a lot of shops selling clothes but I still prefer Shi lin. Wu Fen Pu is more of warehouse selling and most of the clothes on sale are now winter clothes =( Can't buy too much else will be wasted in S'pore.
Had a nice dumpling dinner in the midst of heavy rain. The dumplings are much nicer than the ones we had over at the same brunch in HK. But all in all, hk dumplings are still the best!!!

Had a bowl of not very nice fen yuan..I can actually eat awful stuff in taiwan ~o~...

Last day, it was a short visit to Taipei 101. Didn't go up the observatory this time as I went up the other time. Not exactly worth the 2nd time up, especially with the ticket price. Did some camwhoring outside the building before we shopped around Xi Men Ding again for the last time. Argh..4 days just isn't enough for a Taiwan trip!! But oh well, can still go there next time..though not so soon yet..

Bought a lot of Tai Yang Bing and pineapple tarts back for the exchangees. Yum Yum! Had a great dinner with them on fri night! It was fun sharing our trip & listening to their experiences over at Guilin and Hunan. It shall be my turn to visit Cheena at the end of the year!!!!!!!! =)

After a crappy and shitty yesterday, today just seems to get better...

As compared to yesterday's heavy rain & wind, today's cooler & clam.. Authmn is coming..

As compared to the cooking incident yesterday, today's indulgence at Starbucks is time away from time...a pity it's too short...

As compared to yesterday's mundane instant noodle dinner, today's wanton mee is heavenly..

As compared to all the unhappiness yesterday, my today is so much better..with much thanks to ah gong, my best bud..

Today just makes me feels that things will always go for the better, that the rainbow will certainly appear after the cloudy day..

And I am glad that I have friends here in HK, friends who never fails to make me laugh, friends who will make my experience here richer..

45 days in Hk...more exciting days to go! Next stop: Taiwan here I come~~!

3 big news occured within a week. Is the world really falling apart?

Fall of the Lehman Brothers, 1 of the 5 biggest investment company. AIG almost followed the same fate, luckily it was saved by the funds pumped in by the federal government. This news was quite a shock as many in hk and in s'pore queued outside AIA to ask about their investments. Now i wonder if mum had any investments on hand with AIA mmm... If AIG was to fall, the shock would be too big for the economy...
Milk scare in China. This is not the 1st time we heard about food with overdosage of chemicals. Not only food, toys too. For heavens sake, could the manufacturers have some morals?? Does money really mean so important? Much more than lives? It is already bad enough that the milk is being watered down, it has to be ade worse by the addition of melamine to boast protein level. Really very dissapointing.. Now, we can't eat egg tarts for fear of contamination. Starbucks is affected, not drinking milk tea for the time being etc etc... Damn those immoral manufacturers.
Typhoon in hk. I managed to hide from Nuri but not Hagupit ~.~ Signal 8 on tuesday night. Could hear the howling wind blowing strongly, trees swaying and the banging of blown objects. Strong wind plus heavy rain, can't even hold my umbrella straight. 1st time experience of typhoon man... Signal 3 the next morning and we were like wth, dourpouring with strong winds and yet we have to go to school. Anw, everything went back to normal in the afternoon. No worries, I am safe!

Hope to hear some good news for the coming weeks. GIve me some hope that the world hasn't fall apart!

Monthsary...

23/09/2008: hk monthsary

1 month plus 1 day ago, I was still at Singapore, getting ready for my flight, for my journey, only to realised that the flight was delayed, again, again and yet again because of the typhoon....Had a great company with the guys. With you around, I won't cry, cause I am always happy around you all. No matter how sad, I just can't bring myself to cry in front of you all...
The part where I almost teared was on the actual day of my flight, when I really have to say goodbye, when I left my dad who was in constant worry for me. Each time I hear their voices, tears would still well up... And the voices of you guys...brightens my mood for the whole day! =)

1 month later, sitting on the chair in my room, I am facing the treat of yet another typhoon. Don't know if it is good news or bad; good because there will be no school, bad because we will be stuck at home, many people and services will be affected. Now as I am writing this, it is signal 8. Kind of scary to hear the howling sounds of the wind and the trees swaying, almost couldn't keep my umbralla straight. But yup no worries, I am still not blown away by the wind. Hope the number of casualty will be kept to the minimum. Auntie is knocking on every door to make sure we closed our windows. I pray for her safety on her way home. Looking at the brighter side, I wish to have a whole day free tomorrow to finish up my stuff! Work is indeed piling up..and i have a test coming next Friday.

Hku is now my second home. School here is the same as back home, stressful, loads of stuff to catch up on. But the lecturers are still not that bad, at least I can still understand what they are saying. But it is taking a whole lot of my time and energy. Exchange is just different from holidaying boo~~

4 weeks down, I have been to quite a number of places, but not yet quite enough. I visited Causeway Bay a few times that I am kind of familiar with the place (though I still can get lost..)Been to Mongkok for shopping 3 times but haven't really bought a lot. Shopped items to list: 3 shirts, 2 shoes, 1 bag. And that is all......sadded. I spent most of my money on food and groceries...way too much argh! Even the trip to the factory outlets at tung chung remains futile. Only victory item was the jacket from Espirit. That was the proudest trophy of them all. pathetic.

Now that I have stayed here for a month, I guess I can share with you all some thoughts about living here in hk.

1st, source for cheap and good food. Dim sum is good. But not recommanded to eat it everyday, every meal. Best way to save $$, eat when they have promotions, like during some odd hours e.g. 2-4pm. That way, you can have a full stomach without exploiting too much on your wallet! Food is also cheap during mornings; you can get a meal 20-30% cheaper than normal times . Eat a full breakfast (brunch) and make it last through the day, then reward yourself with a good dinner!

2nd, prepare sandals and shoes if you are planning to tour hk. This place is full of slopes!! Wear heels at your own risk. Ironically, hk is full of heels. You are hardly find flipflops and slippers around. The slack culture is unique to Singapore. Transport is expensive! If it's a short distance, just walk and train your leg and butt. A octopus card is what you need to travel around.

3rd, learn cantonese! Everyone speaks cantonese here. It's a torture not able to understand them or express your thoughts to them although they do speak chinese as well (but not as good). Our accent is actually more recognisable than you think. More than one has already asked if I am Singaporean.

4th, learn their culture! I am still learning man....

5th, slim yourself down before coming. Hk is really limited in space; room is small, streets are narrow, restaurants are small, even the toilet cubicle is small ~.~"" I wonder if hk ostracise fat people. Speaking of that, my tummy is bulging......

One month down and there's so many things to pen down. But all in all, I am still adjusting well to life here and hopefully will be for the remaining months. There are a lot more places to explore and I want to venture out to taiwan and china. More photos uploaded on facebook!!

Long weekend last week!! whee oh whee~~! Hong kong follows china's in celebrating mooncake festival and we get to have an additional day off! Decided to go over to macau over this long weekend..haven't been there before so am a bit excited. This trip is what that keeps me alive ater a long week of schooling~~

And so we took a bus to tst ferry terminal & bought the tickets. It was so early in the morning..so sleepy....

=) We were dressed nicely..all because of the dress code in the casino. Kenn was the most 夸张, wore shirt, pant & leather shoe. Looked like an office boy haha!

The ferry we board is called 1st ferry and it was so comfortable! fully air-conditioned (a bit too cold though.. comfy seats with tables..). The ride to macau was very shaky, can literally feel the waves when I wrote my arrival card on the table..

Our hotel! it's a 3 star hotel & the 6 of us shared a deluxe suite. Nice & comfy beds & showers...whoots~!

Straight after putting down our bag, we went to search for this restuarant which sells nice pork bun. This is the famouslious 猪扒包..feel like eating more... yum yum!

Macau have lots of scooters..weirdly though they didn't really have any bikes. didn't managed to catch any. Think h & leo will be sadded if they were to stay at macau lolx!

And their taxis are black & white! Kinda surprised that they actually used these inauspicious colours. way si suggested that it looked more formal, so as to be in par with the casino formal image...mm..i wonder huh..

Our 1st stop: Fisherman's Wharf. According to the website, it's a themed park with rides. Went to taiwan's fisherman's wharf & it was super nice! This was the anticipation I had of macau's version when we were heading there..

..but as the pics showed, it was no where near taiwan! It was soo freaking hot & there's no one! we were like the only persons there.. i wonder where are all the ppl in macau. I wonder if the themed park has the theme of 'deserted island' ~.~"

So we got out of the wharf & went walking around th deserted island...Alp! Some snapshots..

After that we followed the directions of a lady who works in the drink shop & came to 新马路. Finally some signs of life!

Night falls & we went to watch the greyhound race. A 1st time experience! The entrance ticket is also uber cheap..

Dunno which breeds the dogs are of. Super long & thin legs. They can be dog models if they choose to retire haha!

Up next..the fireworks festival! busy busy!! We were lucky to be able to catch the fireworks. It was so super nice!! lots of ppl there..

Nice eh? it has been quite sometime since i caught fireworks..the last time was during ndp haha. Initially wanted to go up the macau tower but there a lot of ppl! So instead..we rushed down to catch a glimpse of the casinos. Afterall we were all dressed up for that!

Caught some interesting sights ard the casino..rows of atm & pawnshops.. haha..just in case the gamblers need to withdraw cash or even to pawn away their valuables...& clothes? lolx!

And that's end of day 1. An activity packed day! terminal - wharf - 新马路 - greyhound race - macau tower - casino - back to room! Had a nice shower & slept on the comfy bed until way si 'kicked' me out of bed........

Day 2: went to the famous 妈祖庙..another super hot hot day!

After the temple short tour, initially wanted to go for the go kart but the weather simply turned us off. It was really freaking hot, worse than in s'pore. So instead, we went to shop around at new yaohan, which is presumbly the only shopping centre in macau (imagine that! I can just die staying there man!) And it was home time! Just in time to grab a nice nice hotplate dinner & go for the mooncake festival carnival at victoria park. Photos uploaded on facebook!

Yes. The lack of updates..sorry about that.

Life here is starting to turn towards the mundane side as school starts for the 2nd week. I guess there's nothing to talk about school, and there's just too much to talk about the places I went to. Like the saying goes: "A picture speaks a thousand words". I would now have already spoken a few million words on my picture congested facebook haha.

Many of you guys who had been to hk before knows, hk is the land of eating & shopping, so much so that studying just don't seem to fit. Pasted a "To do list" on my board which included tutorial completion & read-ups and guess what, I have done nothing..argh! I am not being hardworking, but it's just that things have kind of accumulate to the extent that I have to do something about it in order to safely secure my credits. Before coming here, I had this thought in me: 'Exchange = no need to study so hard + tour ard + gain exp'. I wonder how long & far can I hold this defination...

(Anw, I chose hk not because the stuff here are cheap & I can do my shopping here or eat as many dim sum as I wanted. In the first place, all these had never been on the priority list, they are just merely supplements... And to add to this note, hk stuff are NOT cheap; the living expenses are high, sometimes even higher than s'pore, so clear away those shallow assumptions you had of hk. Holidaying in hk is DIFFERENT from living & studying here.. )

Alright, back to the point. I will be going over to macau this weekend. Whee oh whee~~!! hk celebrates mooncake festival here (as in it's declared as a hols here =)) and I am soo looking forward to eating the mooncakes & carrying lanterns & watching the fireworks over at macau. This is what that's keeping me alive for now.. And the whole long list of outings! Yes, this is what exchange should be like man...touring around like you never before...! The lost out point is the money..I still need to buy lots & lots of clothes to replenish my skeleton thin wardrobe!!!!!

September is here and of course I have not forgotten about the 2 birthday chaps. Bought a birthday card already but I am still trying to find a post office to stamp my card. Ok, the card may seem insignificant as compared to the dhl package you are expecting but I am trying~~~~ post offices just seem to be playing hide & seek with me... Take lots of photos for me ya!

Mmm...think that's about it for now. Today had been quite tiring for me, with the ongoing lectures and the super uber boring canto class. I want my Jau lauh si!!! It's always a chore to wake up on time, all these has to make it even worse......... Do talk or msg me whenever free..it helps me to get recharged somehow.. anyone had plans to send some essence of chicken over????? =)

tonight went to the hall canteen to have a bowl of super salty soup mee for dinner. on our way back, happen to catch the cheer fight between the 3 halls: wei lun, lee hysan & r.c. lee.
Their way of cheer fighting is so different from what I experienced in singapore. When I used to stay in hall, our cheering is more wild & on the fun part. But theirs, more of a military style...

heyyo! sorry for the lack of updates during this period. Days in hk had been really hectic that days ended as if each only lasted 12 hours instead of the 24... Am tired but tired in a good way =)

On the 1st note, shall thanks and give my love to those who sent me off on the 22nd. Am really touched, especially when the gang accompanied me throughout when the flight was delayed. Speaking of that, it was total sian-ness when the flight was delayed from the initial 8.30 am to 3.15 pm due to the typhoon. It was the 1st time in my life that I meet such a situation. And in case you all didn't know, the flight was delayed again and again to 7.15am on the next day. By then, I am just relieved to be able to see my flight showing the correct timing on the board. Consolation to this long delay is that I managed to avoid the typhoon which I heard is the strongest ever; I get to sleep on my comfy bed in my own sweet home for another additional day; I get to get the gift from hw;..............................

Anyway, back to the point, although it wasn't the real farewell but i still aappreciate it man. Muacks to all! =)

While on the plane, just couldn't believe that I am really going to hk, with alice. So much work and problems surfaced ever since the start of application and we survived! yay! Success is sweet! Reach hk, 1st impression was that hk is really really full of people! People from all over the world, speaking languages that I can't understand (shall really learn my canto soon.....)

Anyway, spent a few days settling down & went to a few places to eat & shop. Along the way, met up with a lot of friends, a large group from nus, some from ntu & smu and the others from other countries. I guess this is the whole point about being an exchange student; to know more friends, to learn new culture and to learn how to adapt to a new environment. Right now I guess I am still very much myself, under the 'protection' of so many local friends who knew their way here much better than me. But I hope to learn new stuff, to be stronger, to communicate better and to be less blur! Shing is still trying!!

If I say I don't miss home & all my friends back at home, I am lying. I really do miss the company.... But oh well, shall start calling some of you when I misses home too much (that room mate of mine yaks on the phone so much that I sometimes wonder if I misses out anything back home lol...)

School is starting next week and my timetable is super packed! Sadness... There are still so many places which I want to go!! The guys here keep saying that we still have 4 months.. Really lo, 4 months will pass with a blink of an eye.. So don't expect too much of me here...I just hope I won't miss out anything in hk please!!!!!

Alritez, enough of this essay writing haha..I am very much settled down now, just not very much so for the schooling aspect.. I am very much turned off by the labs as always but well, I am hoping for the best. At least i still have ad-hoc lover with me here on this journey! haha

I guess the saddest thing now is not be able to witness what you have been working on for the last 3 months or so. I mean the show & tell was okay, not that I particularly liked it, but the science kit -- so much planning, so much work in it and yet it has to be pushed again & again to I dunno when. I am not exactly depressed about it, just that it feels so weird, kind of incomplete, and the feeling of sorry-ness that I have to leave my dear syee behind alone (she was kind of pissed off..really ha). But well, let's see how things goes ba...hopefully we can deliver our 'babies' together. The joke about videotaping it for me, I don't exactly find it funny though.....

Anw thx bud for being my trash can haha...I will really miss you for the next 5 months. And the gang, the 3 mahjong kakis + the 'australian', the chemists, the ppl in hall, the family,.....................

Finally, it's rag day 2008. This year's rag day coincides with the Beijing Olympics and is a day before nat day, a day to remember easily for the next few years i think. This year's rag day is moved back to src (last year's was held at the padang). As always, spirit was very high over there as the whole field is filled with cheering, an array of colours and many beautiful floats parked around the track; fully displaying the spirit of nus!

Was lucky that this year, the hall's performance was lined behind the faculties, else i might have missed it. It's a wonderful performance despite the crowd and hot weather. Great job guys!

Tuesday was flag day & many would have seen loads of our ppl wearing orange holding cans for donation. I went once during my orientation and enough is enough. Flag day is no joke. Thinking of hose slacking days where we used to ask for donations for an hour and then slack the whole day? Dream on. Goodness...

The end of rag & flag marks the start of a new semester. Wasn't being able to join my mates in school this sem but am glad that I went for rag to immerse in the spirit this year. Nus mates, jia you ba!! Will be going back for a few days too!

Today went down with mum to watch ge tai downstairs. It was quite nice, especially the songs, I liked most of them! There are a lot a lot of people crowding around the stage to watch the show, and some especially to catch liu ling ling, the female lead in 881. I must say she is quite experienced in hosting ge tais, made the show very entertaining.
Besides people, there are a lot of cars too, jamming the way out. And my dad was complaining about the lack of carpark spaces, he has to park all the way at 339 instead haha!

It's the month of august. Month of the ndp, month of dad's birthday, month of sch reopening, month of my flight... And this year the 1st of august clashes with the 1st of july of the chinese calender, so fast eh. And on this very day of coincidence, I have to come down with a cold.. Feel so weak that I spent my afternoon sleeping. I guess the "It's time to exercise!" alarm is ringing inside my body =x

Had a chain of realistic dreams again while sleeping. Whenever I had such dreams, I wonder if it is a phenomenon or it's just my brain gone haywire with the attack of the virus. Often the scenarios are of those which I feel it will never happen (anw most of my dreams don't really happen though).
Is it a good sign to dream to things that may happen or is it good to leave dreams as it is..well I guess it is not for me to decide... *head throbbing*

Anw, just saw those temporary stages setting up at my house carpark and smoke flying around since last night. My house is gonna be boomed by loud songs & opera singing again for the next few nights. Sometimes I am glad to have such things at my house area as all these ge tais and opera are part of the dwindling chinese tradition and to be able to see them without having to travel far is kind of a blessing; some people may not even get to see all these. But sometimes, I really feel like shutting them up, especially when a lousy singer is up in place. Man! But this year is ok, at least I do not have to study like last year, at least I don't have to wake up early for school like last year (except for my tuesday nights)

1st of august, 21 days to go. The feeling of queasiness has been in me. Although most of the admin stuff are said to have been settled, there just seem to be a lot of things left to do. Things which I felt are still kind of early to do, things which I think I already had in mind...And sometimes, I do get missing prangs, of those whom shared a lot of memories with me, of those whom I used to chat for hours. But well, it's gonna just be 5 months right? (short compared to those who has been away like forever like my dear nicole). I guess it'll be over soon and perhaps I may not want to come back instead haha. I want to enjoy every moment..

Right now I am putting most of my focus on my 448 'babies' (mine & hers =) ) I really can't wait to see them, especially when we spent so much time & effort conceiving them. Hope it'll receive good response. Alright..time for a nice dinner to tune back my body. I want something nice!!

Ame's Birthday

Attended Amelia's every early birthday celebration on sat. Before that went back to Peirce for their family day. This was the first time I stepped into their temp campus. It was a bit small and shabby, reminds me of the old Nanyang campus. Met up with a few teachers like Miss Tan, Mrs Han, Mrs Poh and Mre Jeya who seem to only remember hw ~.~" Had a very long chat with Mrs Han and did quite a bit of catching up. Glad to know the teachers are doing fine there but somehow, after the chat with the teachers, I was kind of affirmed on not going into teaching. Teaching in sec sch is a challenge, especially when you are a major part of the growing period of the students. Primary sch is also a challenge; don't just assume that it is the easiest as their curriculum is the basic, to be able to teach them that basic curriculum is itself not an easy job.

After that went to the smoky kb hawker centre to have a chat before heading off to Amelia's house. Her house was quite big, I think a bit bigger than leo's. It was my first time there so felt a bit awkward at first. But did a lot of catching up with my sec sch friends so it was really very enriching! Here are some of the photos taken:

A summary of this week:

Monday went to travel agency to finally book our air tickets. Finally one big thing off our list. Just want to say thanks to alice for being so understanding..somehow I am glad that I'll be going to hk with the lovely you =) Just can't wait for our adventure! The day is 22nd august at 830 am T3!

Tuesday went shopping with my dear bestie. Initially planned to shop from one end of Orchard to another de but I guess we were just too tired hence had only managed to walk half. Shall date you out again soon hehe..I love spending time with you talking about random stuffs! Brought 2 tops from Zara (not the kids section this time lol) and she brought her shorts (can I see your sexy legs soon?? haha =p) Once again I have failed to buy my bottoms but oh well..will have the chance ba hehe

Wednesday had my weekly teacher aide stuff. We are doing the science kits now and there are quite a bit of work to do but well I am having fun in it. Luckily I'll be able to see the end product before I flyyyyy! After that we went to IJC to have thai food. Yup they have cheap thai food there and the tom yam soup was very sour! Shiok! (but only when it's hot). Lunching there reminds me of my jc days, the days where I still wear a uniform and the days where I spend great times with my friends.......

Thursday night went to catch Wanted with my buddies. The show was more of a action comedy to me. Should go & watch. Jolie was as usual sexy hot. She still looked pretty when she died. And the classic "time to say goodbye........" made me laugh like mad. Want to know more just go watch!

Friday was doing the science kit work while half slacking at home and rotting in front of the computer. Another day wasted out of the few remaining days I have left in Singapore.....

Saturday or today I was doing sewing. Yes you have not heard wrong, I was sewing. Not with my hands but with my mum's sewing machine. Even though it wasn't perfect but I guess I did ok! (at least from my standard..) Wee..I have level up from the tai tai course (do tai tais sew?) haha
And now while I am typing here, I am also enjoying free fireworks from I think the NDP rehearsal. Watching them in the comfort of my room, I just loved it!

Yup that was my week. Had been feeling a little moody and down these days and I don't know why. Hope this feeling goes away soon.......I am feeling teri-gible.......

ok...maybe I am paranoid.. Because I just have too many weird realistic dreams, almost every night... Just what am i paranoid about I do not know...

Firstly, the air ticket incident. Ok maybe i know the problem to this. There are quite a bit of issue regarding this and I truly am stressed up. But hey..everything is settled and yes, we are flying off on the morning of 22nd august!

Secondly, the friend incident. This is super duper ubber weird, I seriously don't know why does this friend enter into my dreams. Firstly, sometime long ago, I dreamt about attending the wedding dinner of this friend, and now, I dreamt that that friend is attached! Through facebook! ~.~" Maybe I use facebook too much? But no leh, I haven't been going there for a week le...... Perhaps I was meant to be a matchmaker for this friend..or perhaps I dunno what....

Thirdly, I forgot what it is.. I can still remember it the 1st hour I woke up but it kind of flew away now that I am writing this. And I am so not going to make myself recall that for now...

Anyway, I woke up this morning with another shock.. I looked like an indian now!!!! But hey I am loving it...at least I have loads of fun at the southern ridges and I am going to be even blacker! Call me Sivalingum Shing!

Besides having fun and getting real tan, shing is having some serious stuff too.. At least the admin work and the teacher aid is keeping me busy lest I rot in front of the comp, which I am now actually. There are quite a bit of relationship stuff to settle too...but I being on the low end of the EQ scale often find myself getting tangled in stuff which others have no problems in. While I am excited about the fashion module I might be getting, I was also hoping for a module which can teach me on better communication, not just on the business level but also on the personal level. Call it SOCI 001 -- How to improve your EQ and communicate better.

Ok..enough of whining. Shing is going to rot in front of the comp again. Ask me out guys! For breakfast, lunch, tea or dinner!

Wee~~ Yestie went ecp to cycle with the chemists. Quite some time since i last cycle so am quite excited!! Met them in the morning and we cycled for 2.5 hours...1st time i cycled soo long, until my butt ached..lotz..

We cycled all the way to near changi beach haha...was the 1st to cycle till so far too. The scenery was very nice, very relaxing...to be able to see the sea and the sky..

We stopped by the garden to snap some photos and to rest a while.....pretty!

After that, we stopped by bedok jetty. The scenery really wowed me off...very beautiful..with the sea so green and the sky so blue..

And of course..the wind soo strong that we have difficulties riding forward..

At the end of the whole cycling trip, my whole body is aching like mad..this is the result of not exercising for too long haha.. So we went to a indonesian restaurant to have a well deserved meal..

Really nice!! guess we were all hungry & tired....

And this.....is the reminder that i am still a beginner... but who cares? haha I am still equally excited about the sun's trip with the gang! (hope my butt recovers by then..) Wee~~~=)

p.s. i want to say paiseh to that in-the-same-bus-as-me-yet-i-didn't-notice someone...I am very cocked-eye at times lol

Ok..this is very belated for yn... Hers was on the 28th last month but we only met up yestie! Oh my..sorry gal..

Compensate it with a long session of singing at k-one! But of all things, I have to get a red eye that morning ~~" It was so red & sore so had to visit the doctor which i waited for abt an hour~~ Got some antibiotics from the doctor which has a disgusting bitter after taste..yucks~

ok..back to singing.. Met them at ard 12 and we sang all the way till 6...shiok! I guess i won't be going for any k-box session for quite some time after that haha... Just somehow or another we didn't get to get high during the session but well it was still quite shuang to chiong all the gary chow songs with yn! haha wee~~

After that they went off to have dinner at pasta mania while i went back. Didn't get to meet up with jean that night..so sorry.. Shall update again on our next meet-up! =)

Special sem is finally over!! After a write-a-lot-yet-can't-finish-chui paper, the group of 'special' chemist decided to give ourselves a long deserved break!! =)

The day is reserved for a meal at raffles city =)

We went to a japanese marche-style restaurant. Previously don't exactly like to go marche as it's always a pay-a-lot-yet-not-so-filling experience. But this time round the jap version is not bad! I liked the ambiance there and its market style of ordering food...

Finally, after more than 3 months of preparation, the AWARE's body image workshop has taken place at CHIJ katong convent. This workshop is a pilot project organized by us as part of our project for our GEM module. Lots of work, lots of discussions, lots of sweat just to fulfill this common goal........

Woke up at a godforsaken time of 5.30 am..gosh i really forgot when was the last time i ever woke up before the sun does ~.~ Meet up with Debbie and both of us took a cab down to the school, only to find out that we were 1 of the earliest there~~ The most funny thing was that some of my project mates went to follow a student to the school and end up following the wrong student! haha..super classic!

The school was like starting to sing the anthem when we were at the hall & it was like almost 2 years since i last sang the national anthem. Almost forgetting what is it like to wear the uniform, to stand at the parade square & sing the anthem, to be controlled by the discipline mistress....gosh i sound so old haha..

When the classes started streaming into the hall, i was kind of nervous, suddenly don't know what to do in front of about 250 students (luckily chyi yueh was good, really good & confident)
The 1st part of the workshop was a talk by trybe. It was quite interesting & the students really enjoyed it based on their response & comments. 1 of the speaker, Nicholas, was like so high D la..totally engaging.. Hope the girls really learnt something from there..

2nd part of the workshop was the aerobics session. We invited Mike, an instructor from NIE to teach the girls simple aerobics. It was super super fun!! The moves were really creative and fun..if only i was wearing p.e. attire like them, i think I'll just dance like crazy wahaha =) After the whole exercise thing, all of us were like so warm & sweaty, the weather is like so freaking hot la..goodness..but it was loads of fun & craziness!!

Sad thing is that the girls are not exactly in favour with the dance, well i guess it's the normal stage that we used to go through whereby we were so reluctant to do anything, just anything..
Poor Mike, he look so disappointed.. feel so sorry for him...

The last part was the nerve ranking part -- the body image talk. Each of us was supposed to take charge of a class and have a 'discussion' with them on the concept of body image & beauty. I almost freaked out just before the talk..never had i tried talking to a class of 37 students. Even with the facilitator's copy, my mind was like a blank..37 students leh.. I mean i tried relief teaching before but that was different from this, at least relief teaching the job was just to deliver what the teacher had prepared and the class size wasn't so big; this talk was like totally new and raw ~.~''

Anyway i just went with it.. Stepped into the classroom, found that the computer was so freaking slow (i think even slower than Pentium 1 la..) that i almost panicked! Luckily the slides did get uploaded, or else the whole thing will be like soo dry.. And the video was like taking forever to stream..and when it finally finished streaming, an error message popped up and i had to re-stream again ~.~""" almost panicked la..goodness... lucky the video did run in the end or else........ {$%&**#@!#%^}

The whole talk was more than an hour. The response was like.............. Some of them are like totally not interested and i was like in a 'shit, dunno what to do' state. But luckily most of them listened, really thanks for that. I did most of the talking, explaining, asking questions here & there, smoking here & there, trying to make it more interesting...(gosh i finally know how teachers must have felt on their 1st day at work). The girls were really interested in the video and really went "whoa~~~" Cool right? (ok la, they are not whoa-ing at me la but dunno why, it just kind of feel relieved for me..haha) At the end of the talk, i was just glad it was over, i dunno how i survived through but i just did! Really.. And the satisfaction comes when all the students stood up and said "Thank you Shing Yuan, May god bless you always" Although it may sound routine but i am really so touched la..all that 1 hour talk was like worth it..totally =) I conquered a class of 37!! (ok.. maybe less than that haha...)

Finally the whole programme was over. Even though it was near noon, but all of us really felt that we just had a full day of work. Totally tiring, totally hot, totally satisfied =) I guess you can't get this type of satisfaction anywhere, it's only when you have been through a lot, truly make your effort to do it the best will you feel so enriched, even if it's just for that short moment of time.. (Reminds me of the good x9 days~~~~)

After the whole thing, went for Ajisen ramen at parkway parade. The most happy thing: to step into an air-con restaurant, to eat something filling, to have a good chat with the rest and to not pay for anything!! =o (I guess that was the best part of social entrepreneurship =) )

Went home after that. Shacked.. But i guess it's still worth it. Like what Dr goh said, community service is all about doing what you like, about owning the project as your own, on top of the need to help the targeted community. Since when did we ever felt so happy while doing things for free? It's only when you are part of the project! What an interesting and enriching module. I really learnt a lot!! =) Great time working with those guys!! =) =)

Went to catch a movie with the gang on sun. It has been quite some time since I last watched a movie, very long ago indeed... Initially wanted to go sing k but some of them suggested watching movie so don't mind la (anw i already had 2 k-box sessions before that le so it's ok for me =) )

Went to watch 'Made in Honour' at The Cathay. The show was quite nice, romantic and quite funny, though the ending was a little expected la.. After that went to walk walk around PS and ate a bowl of really nice mango shaving! I think i'll patronize the shop anytime i am at PS next time wahaha..
After that bought a pretty bag at Precious Moment (sorry la i know i had a lot of bags le but that was really so pretty!! stupid ah gong was like lamenting, but oh well, i AM a woman after all haha :p)

After that went to MFM for dinner. Ordered 2 seafood combo which was super delicious and filling.. Met a waitress with extremely good service attitude, hoped he gets rewarded for that =) We went to the Istana Park after that to chat till 11+ before heading home. It has been quite some time since i felt so relaxed to be able to sit and chat like nobody's business. Yup, it's the company of the guys always.....

A breach...a lesson learnt

" A confluence of three critical factors led to security lapses that resulted in Jemaah Islamiyah(JI) detainee Mas Selamat Kastari's escape from detention in February.

First, there was a physical security breach as the ventilation window in the toilet – from which Mas Selamat made his escape – did not have grilles.

Second, the guards watching Mas Selamat allowed him to close the door of the urinal cubicle when they should not have done so.

And third, there was a physical weakness in the perimeter fencing outside the Family Visitation Block, where the toilet was located, which made it easier for Mas Selamat to get out of the detention centre's premises.

On the day of his escape, Mas Selamat was escorted by two Gurkha guards and a Special Duty Operative - who is an Internal Security Department (ISD) officer - from his cell to a locker room to change into civilian clothes for his family's visit. At the locker room, the guards lost sight of him when he stood behind a column of lockers to change. He was then escorted to the Family Visitation Block, where he used a toilet, renovated in 2007, to shave and comb his hair before meeting his family members. He then entered a urinal cubicle, closed the door and turned on a water tap inside the cubicle. One guard stood outside the cubicle door, while the other was outside the main toilet door. After a while, the guard outside the cubicle felt Mas Selamat was taking too long. But instead of checking, he alerted the second guard outside the toilet, who alerted the female Duty Operative. The Duty Operative then alerted a male Assistant Case Officer, who ran in, kicked open the door and found Mas Selamat gone. The ventilation window in the cubicle was left open." -- CNA, 21/4/08

The report on the escape of Mas Selamat is out. After more than a month, he is still said to be in hiding. To me, this report sounds like a plot on a movie, where often officers would whistle outside the cubicle door while the criminal entered a closed door cubicle, only to realise that he had stepped on the toilet bowl & escaped through the window. It's just unimaginable that the guards who are specifically trained for special operations would make such a blunder...i wondered what has happened to the guards-in-charge now...
And the fact that Mas Selamat had noticed a physical weakness in the perimeter fencing but not the guards who have been surveying the area was......i dunno..it's just kind of insulting to Singapore's security system.

But whatever it is, I just hope that a lesson is learnt. Nothing is perfect i guess, what is more important is how serious we take this wake up call...

Many things are better left unsaid...Just my cent of thoughts though...

1) 'Beautiful Body with AWARE' workshop at CHIJ Katong convent

This is the project me & my project mates have been working on for nearly 10 weeks. Interesting part: kick boxing!! Think it'll be really fun!! =)

2) Home science kit programme at Innova primary

It has been years since i left primary school and seeing all those little kids running about makes me feel a little old =p . I almost forgot that pri sch kids need a lot of guidance & explaination, soo used to the self learning process taught during the tertiary education. But i guess it'll be quite fun & interesting designing simple experiments for them..similar to designing toys heh..
(btw..science education starts only at pri 3, guess a lot of us actually forgot about that..at least for me =p )

Went to Clarke quay today to celebrate yt's birthday and had dinner at a Mexican restaurant . On the way there, saw a few artistes like vivian lai, cao guo hui, edmund chan and chen han wei filming a programme outside Central. Kind of rare to be able to see so many artiste at one go, just too bad can't take pictures with them =p

Anyway, had dinner at the restaurant. Food there was quite nice, especially the nachos and the tuna steak! For desert we had a choc flour-less cake. Had no idea what the cake is made of then but still it tasted real good!

After dinner, went to walk around at central before heading back as cheryl had to rush to her bf's birthday party (busy tai tai haha). Although it was a short gathering but really had fun talking to them, at least it bring my mind away from the never ending reports.....

Just some random stuff I talked about after spending the afternoon with my "evil twin" and it came true...sort of...

Accompanied her to where her bus stop is, the other side of north bridge road which I have never been before, usually am confined to bras basah side. Along the road we walked, found a few interesting places. One of them is the insititue of chinese opera (never for once had I thought that there is actually a school for the traditional art). Took a turn there and found myself on a very interesting street..

The street was quite short but it's lined with a lot of buildings. You will be amazed that just along that path I walked (roughly about 4-5 km..), there are a total of 5 churches!

Also amazingly, 3 ulu hotels.. more like higher class backpack hotels...

At the end of the street, found myself at the bus stop at SMU's admin building, but realised that the bus stop is of the opposite direction I am supposed to go. And opposite the road...no bus stop..for that's a one way lane..

It's just amazing that even though I had been around that area umpteen times, everything still just seems so unfamiliar to me.. Perhaps it's because I am always confined to the shopping malls..perhaps because my world is so surrounded by tests these days...

So sometimes it's not bad an idea to venture out of the crowed places and step into unexplored..

Anyway I always crap through almost all my weekly 600++ word reflections, so this will be no different wahaha....i shall survived!

On the early morning of good Friday, just when the clock strikes slightly after 12am, something joyous happen!! Then, it had to shadowed by problems a few minutes later............=(
So good Friday isn't as good afterall...(in fact it wasn't meant to be good rite? ah..whatever..)

Think i am talking nonsensically right now wahaha...I have the right to talk nonsense here, you have the right not to go crazy with me.....lalalala...

This is the voice of the developing world....

All along, we believe that capitalism and globalisation is the way to go. Yes it is, especially for us Singapore, who is so heavily dependent on imports for survival.

But..is it true that it applies to the whole world? All along, we heard umpteen times about the WTO riots and wondered what it is about.. Because we truly felt that free trade is the only way for them to grow. "They should just be contented that we are allowing them a chance to make money, a chance to develop....."

But when you discovered that even poor countries like Jamaica had to pour away excess fresh milk down the drain (literally down the drain), not because they have too much but because of the influx of cheaper US imported milk powder, you know that the consequences are serious....

When you discovered that the IMF and the world bank does indeed promise to lend loans for the development of the nations, but only under the agreement of loads of underlying,restrictive and unfair restrictions, you suddenly realise why the poverty remains and even got worse..

Those riots are not just about stubborn people who loathed the WTO, they are truly the voices of the poor, the suffering, the exploited... Things aren't just what we thought it was..

This is capitalism, the selfish world we live in. Yet ironically, it seems to be the only way that seems to work. For communism, which promotes the ideology of brotherhood totally falls apart so easily in the face of capitalism.

When was the last time we stopped to think about the bigger picture? When was the last time we even care to unveil the ugly, hidden truth of the world? The thing is, how do we continue after learning the truth? Things just aren't as simple as we thought...

and we wonder why we had to take GP..

Nice food always taste the best when having it with the closest gang..
The laughter, the talks, the company add spices to the originally heaty & spicy food...
The strong bonds and concern that were exhibited during the whole process to the event is really heart-warming..
Just the fact that we can talk about almost everything under the sun and whine without having to worry how the other person think about you is great..
Just the fact that we always know what's going on even before the sentence is completed makes this friendship a lot more worth while..
And like how jean aims to be our guardian angel, i shall be everyone's little cheeky angel..
(with laughter that comes with little weird sounds =p)

Imagine having to stand in the lab, watching your reagents stir, smelling all those toxic, smelly fumes for 8 long hours....

Busying, watching and praying all the time that the TLC would give us good news, all the way till the lights in the lab were half switched off...

1 word to summurise the feeling: sianz...

I mean all of us were like so dead on our way home that we hardly spoke for sometime..

And this is supposed to be the easiest of the 3...

Really can't imagine till what time we have to slog till next expt...

What makes it more sian: having to go back school on my free day...

Am i whinning and complaining? I guess so........
